Restoration & design

Preserve. Restore. Honour.

Villa Klein is neither a museum reconstruction nor a boutique hotel. It is an authentic villa from 1913, brought back to life with respect for its craft, materials and the spirit of its age.

Stylistic reading of the house

German Jugendstil with Viennese discipline and Sudeten restraint.

We read Villa Klein as a house on the boundary of German Jugendstil and Viennese Secession. It is not an excess of naturalistic floral ornament, but a measured rhythm: the oval in the stained glass, the stylised flower in the carvings, the vertical division of the doors, the soft curve of the staircase handrail.

Viennese Secession brought the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk — the house as a connected whole of architecture, interior, craft and way of living. In Darmstadt this principle became a UNESCO monument.

In the North Bohemian and Sudeten context, villa culture adopted Viennese impulses but kept its restraint and practicality. So even the new layers of the villa do not feel theatrical — they feel as if they naturally belonged to the house.

Materials & craft

  • 1

    Lacquered wood

Deep green finish — like the original doors and built-in furniture.

  • 2

    Natural wood

Warm wood grain — staircase, frames and floors.

  • 3

    Structured glass

Frosted and textured — transoms and door panels.

  • 4

    Brass

Patinated hardware — handles, handrails, details.

  • 5

    Lime plaster

Cream and ivory troweled finish — the calm ground of the interior.

Ornamental motifs

The villa's manual stands on the house's own language, not on generic Art Nouveau romance.

  • Oval in bloom

The most important recurring motif — from the stained glass.

  • Stylised flower

A disciplined Art Nouveau form in carvings and transoms.

  • Flowing curve

The soft organic line of the staircase handrail.

  • Garland & geometry

The calm rhythm of door grids and panels.

  • Peacock — symbol of beauty

A representative accent, not an all-over pattern.

Wallpaper & ornament

Wallpapers belong in Villa Klein, but only in carefully measured doses. Not an arbitrary retro paper, but a pattern that follows the language of the house.

01

Stained-glass oval

The oval is the most important recurring motif — the basis of an all-over pattern.

02

Stylised flower

A simplified, disciplined form, not a naturalistic botanical illustration.

03

Glass grid

Graphics derived from structured glass and door grids.

Peacock and more pictorial motifs as a border, a niche accent or a motif for a more representative room — not as an all-over solution for an ordinary room.

Direction for the rooms

The house should remain legible as an authentic 1913 villa, but with new layers that feel as if they naturally belonged to it.

Preserve and repair original elements wherever reasonably possible. New furniture should not out-decorate the strong elements of the house, but accompany them.

The base is a cream or ivory wall, a deep green and brass detail, matte natural textiles and calmer furniture with a gently Art Nouveau or early modern character.
